Hey there y'all! I told you the next "Listen With Sam" was going to be sooner than the last didn't I?
Yes, welcome back to another instalment of "Listen With Sam" where we sit back and relax with a Paul McCartney record and listen it. Easy right? Well, sadly you have to hear me yammer about said music, but I'll try to make it interesting. This time, we have 1975's Venus and Mars.
Please enjoy, and don't expect Wings at the Speed of Sound till I get around to some other sorely neglected side series...
Peace & love. Hare Hare Krishna.
Time Stamps:
- Intro - 00:00 - 02:54
- Housekeeping - 02:55 - 24:08
- "Listen With Sam": Venus and Mars - 24:09 - End!

Now I’m finding some of the songs not as good as I thought, for me Paul is continuing his cabaret theme with many of the tracks. Band On The Run is the real thing, I feel it has a more spontaneous quality. Venus and Mars shows Paul allowing his indulgences to let slip. The follow up At The Speed of Sound continues in this fashion and it’s not until Tug of War where he regains his true calling.

Yes I did hear it when it was first released, on the Paul Gambuccini show on R1. In those days they played whole albums with the guest commenting in between the songs. When I bought I was already confident of its quality, apart from the Crossroads Theme, if you think it’s bad now it was 10 times as embarrassing then as Crossroads was probably the worst soap ever! Paul was definitely going for gold with this album, setting out his stall for a world tour.
